Seven Titles That Negatively Impacted the Game Industry

Former GiN reviewer and commentator Ryan A. Allen has always been extremely thoughtful and detailed in his commentary and articles about the game industry. He now expands that reach to YouTube in his Kxmode channel.  This week he shares a video with us that highlights his thoughts on seven titles that negatively impacted the industry.

According to Allen: “Not every game changes the industry for the better. This video explores seven titles that left a lasting impact — not because they succeeded, but because they stumbled, overpromised, or broke something in the process. From disastrous launches to business models that shook player trust, these games didn’t just make headlines — they changed how we see the industry.

Some recovered. Others didn’t. But all of them helped reshape how we play, what we expect, and what we now question as gamers.”

Ryan is GiN's MMORPG specialist. Video and PC games have been a part of his life forever. Ryan's first video game console was an Atari 2600 and the first totally sucky game he remembers was Pac-Man for the Atari 2600. Ryan has always had an intrinsic critical eye towards games. His day job is web design and development (another passion of his) And when he's not playing games or doing web work Ryan loves to snowboard, watch movies, and drink beer! :) Ryan says that he is honored to be GiN MMORPG specialist. He's been playing these games in one form or another since the BBS days with Usurper, Elite and The Pit. Then when Windows 95 made Internet easy to access he moved onto games like Ultima Online and Meridian 59.
