E3 2015 Games I Want to See

It’s less than a month to go until E3 2015 kicks off. It’s been a slowE3-2015 year for me, so I’m hoping for some mega announcements with release dates for this year. So without further ado, here are the E3 2015 games I want to see.

Disclaimer: these may not be the same as the games you want to see

EA Press Conference

This isn’t normally top of my E3 press shows, but this year promises two corking games to get the party started.

Mass Effect 4

This has got to be one of my most wanted for E3 2015. I’m hoping for a look at our new protagonist and some of the settings and gameplay. Failing that, a tasty trailer would be nice. Something to play over and over again, in an attempt to glean more information. With the recent ME4 leaks floating around the internet, it’ll be interesting to see if any of them come to pass.

Mirror’s Edge 2

It’s not out of the realms of possibility that we’ll get a first look at the Mirror’s Edge sequel. Although the first game was far from perfect, there was enough to make us want more. And will Rhianna Pratchett be back on writing duties?

Sony Press Conference

I’ve got big hopes for Sony’s show this year. There have got to be some big game announcements, with release dates. So far, everything on my most wanted list is ‘tbc’, which is frustrating.

No Man’s Sky

This is the big one. The game that’s supposed to change everything, especially if you read this article at the Newyorker.com .  Sony has backed this small team, so I’m expecting a big splash at E3 and a release window. I doubt it’ll be this year, despite the above article hinting at December 2015. I’m expecting spring 2016, but that’s okay. I can wait a bit longer for this hommage to 70s pulp sci-fi.

WiLD

This is Michel Ancel’s indie project. It’s the open world survival game that allows you step into the feet, paws or wings of any of the creatures. Other than that, gameplay details are scant, but I can’t wait to find out more. I suspect this might also be 2016.

Rime

Rime is the cel-shaded fairytale style game that looks like a mix between Ico and Windwaker. That’s enough for me to want to know more. Once again, there’s not much to go on, but it’s a gorgeous looking puzzle adventure game, so I’m in. If we’re lucky it’ll be incoming in late 2015.

Hellblade

This is Ninja Theory’s celtic warrior adventure, which looks amazing,  from what little I’ve seen. It’s a cool world to play in and with a female lead, so that’s all win so far. Take a look at this developer’s diary (below) to get a taste, plus confirmation that it will be at E3, but at a private press viewing. It may just get a slot at the main show too.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture

For me, Sony has the strongest potential line-up, and this unsettling adventure game from The Chinese Room, is another great entry I’m hoping to see. Surely this will get a 2015 release date. The trailers are looking very polished.

Microsoft Press Conference

Halo 5: Guardians

343 did such a great job of their first entry into the Halo universe, that I’ve got very high hopes for Guardians. I’m expecting more than just a trailer and I’m also expecting a Christmas 2015 release date.

Ghost of a Tale

I’m a bit obsessed with this little indie game, featuring an anthropomorphic mouse. It’s coming to PC and Xbox One, this year, and I can’t wait. With influences, such as the Redwall books, expect Lord of the Rings with mice, instead of hobbits. What little I’ve seen looks gorgeous and I’m really hoping we get to see more at E3.

And the rest….

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5

There’s nothing like a bit of nostalgia to get a gamer’s heart beating faster. It’s back to the 90s with Tony Hawk.  I’m not expecting any great gameplay changes, but it’ll be nice to see the settings. And the soundtrack is also crucial. Are they going to go retro or is there a new wave of skater punk happening?

Konami’s next move

Okay, it’s not a game, but if it was it would be a puzzler. After the dramatic split from Kojima, it’ll be interesting how Konami positions itself at E3 2015. Fans will be eager to see Metal Gear 5: the Phantom Pain, to allay any fears. I suspect the focus will be on mobile, but it’s really anyone’s guess.

Bethesda Press Conference

Bethesda is hosting it’s first press conference ever, so there must be something big afoot. Obviously, we know that DOOM is on its way, so the frag heads will be foaming at the mouth to see that one.  And then there’s Fallout 4, which will be a huge announcement and the only thing I could imagine warranting a press conference. Either way, it’s going to kick things off with a bang.

And finally…

The Last Guardian

No E3 most wanted list would be complete without The Last Guardian. All we know is that it’s not been cancelled, which is hardly a glowing recommendation. It’s become a phantom game that won’t die. It’s pretty soul destroying really. How could a game ever hope to live up to this much anticipation? I almost hope it never comes out, just because it would be better to have no Last Guardian, rather than have a crappy one.

But until that day comes, let’s enjoy the games we do have and raise a glass to an exciting E3 2015.
