Football season is here at last. And what a first week it was! Once again, Houston wins their first game of the season (at the expense of poor Miami, who already put coach Dave Wannstedt on the hot seat), Former Patriots Drew Bledsoe and Lawyer Milloy deliver a big "in your face" to their former team in a 31-0 Bills Blowout, Brett Favre throws a record tying four picks in a loss, and best of all, the 49ers defense nukes the Bears in head coach Dennis Erickson’s debut. At the time of this writing I know we are heading into … Continue reading Ready for Some Football!→
There are few series that ended as terribly as the Rocky series. Bad acting, Sly not even fighting, and a Don King look-alike? Sylvester Stallone said he was thinking of making a Rocky VI, but I don’t know how he could top the crap he showed me in the series’ 5th outing. The series one blunder and my jokes about it aside, the Rocky movies were some pretty good stuff. Though on the surface it looked like just showcases of some intense boxing action, in moments of the movies excellence they could unbelievably raw views of the human spirit at … Continue reading Rocky Wins by Knock-Out→
During the time this review is being written, I am listening to a radio broadcast of today’s game between the Pirates and the Red Sox. It may only be the preseason until Monday, but I am already looking forward for this season to start. Despite only winning 72 games last year, I feel that it was still a successful campaign from the previous year’s 100-loss disaster. What I have seen last year was a significant improvement on pitching (thank Kip Wells and Josh Fogg for that, not to mention a save record season for closer Mike Williams) and defense (who … Continue reading Play Ball!→
Game Review- Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Vollyball
Very little of Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball’s gameplay has been shown. Mostly the footage we have seen involves the graphic and sexual appeal of the game’s female cast. However, it does come as a surprise that DOAX does have surprisingly good gameplay (if a little on the shallow side) but also works well as, of all things, a life simulator! Those used to the DOA series will be taken for a ride. DOA veteran Zack (voiced by Dennis Rodman with a strange accent) announces that he will be hosting the fourth tournament on his own private island. Using … Continue reading Volleyball Vacation→
In the week that Pro Evolution Soccer makes a welcome return to every soccer-loving gamer’s console, I review the latest offering from Lego. Let’s go have a kick about in Lego Land. The premise here is a soccer (oh, for goodness sake, I’m gonna call it "football", so just deal with it), a football game comprising Lego men. Well, I thought to myself, this could be quite cute and with Lego’s reputation for good quality games, my hopes were high. Just for thoroughness I tested both the PC and the GBA versions. Both games run along the same lines, so … Continue reading Keep Your Eye on the Ball→
Finally after a long, slow summer fraught with talks of baseball strikes, boring tennis matches where we already know the Williams sisters will win before the first serve, and a downward NASCAR season where Jeff Gordon finally won his first race of the year at Bristol, the return of football is upon us. Unlike last year when I had the heavily underrated XFL to hold me over, this year was a longer cross to bear. Don’t even mention Arena football to me, as I do not believe a real football game can be played in only 50 yards. A couple … Continue reading 2002 Football Report Card→
Football is one of the most difficult sports to participate in. Aside from the obvious reasons (how many of you had mothers who wouldn’t let you play?), there are several other reasons football is one tough cookie. Having played on a football team for eight years, I can tell you from experience that some people just can’t take how rough the game is. Fortunately, for you people who couldn’t join a normal team for whatever reason, EA has come through to offer you NCAA Football 2003. Don’t worry about not being able to play football though, because NCAA Football 2003 … Continue reading College Ball Touchdown→
Fishing? I’ve never understood the lure (excuse the pun) of fishing and deer hunting games. To me, they are as exciting as watching grass grow, however, I am going to be as fair as possible. Big Bass Fishing from Take 2 Interactive is a fishing sim for the Playstation 1. In Big Bass Fishing, players can hook 14 different types of freshwater fish, using twenty assorted fishing lures, in three separate game modes and five different fishing events. In Big Bass Fishing, the three game modes are challenge, competition, and arcade. The challenge mode contains varying trials which, when successfully … Continue reading Something Smells Fishy→
Mike Tyson’s career may be on the fritz after getting the old KO a few weeks back, but that does not mean that we are not still seeing a lot of games with his name on them. Don’t get me started on Mike Tyson. I mean the fact that he’s been convicted of rape and various acts of violence is disturbing enough. Then there’s the small matter of him being allowed entry into countries around the world, representing the USA, all because he’s a human goldmine. Now Tyson has the gall to sully the world of video games with another … Continue reading Mike Tyson Boxing→
Hey folks, it’s baseball season again. And means it’s time to look at the latest and greatest baseball simulations on both the PC and console platforms. Once again, I must ask the same question that I asked last year, when I reviewed High Heat 2002, and gave that game 5 Gems (actually 4 + on the PS2). Why is it that there are still a select few morons out there (yeah, I am talking to YOU, Game Informer) that still love to trash this series as opposed to weaker titles such as All Star Baseball? Deep down inside, I have … Continue reading High Heat 2003 Is Still MVP→
