Welcome Time Wasters!

This week I took to my phone to find a time waster to share with you. What I came up with was Asteroid Impacts.

Asteroid Impacts is a physics-based game that requires players to launch asteroid at planets to destroy their cores. Players launch asteroids by swiping their fingers across the screen. Planets, which are made up of white blocks, usually require more than one hit to be destroyed. Despite having finger swipes for control, I found that it was fairly difficult to get asteroids to go where I wanted them to. Even with this issue, the game gives players enough shots that they won’t likely have problems clearing levels.

Another problem I have with the game is its scoring system. I’ve earned one to two points for each level I played. There wasn’t any system that told me how to get more points, which leaves the whole thing feeling half done. The only indicator of points is a counter in the upper left hand corner of the screen that displays how many points have been earned out of all the points available in the game.

Graphics in the game aren’t really anything grand. Yes, it is a phone game. No, that doesn’t excuse mediocrity. The backgrounds are mostly empty with just a few stars littered around and they sometimes have grids on them (for some unknown reason). Planets are lacking any real detail and just appear as white cubes collected together.

Music in the game is alright. The constant techno theme that plays in the background is easy to get lost in. Now if only the gameplay and graphics could match up to the audio, then I’d be able to get play this game for hours on end.

The only other sound in the game is asteroids colliding with planets. While I’m not expecting loud explosions and rumbling, I was expecting a little more than what sounds like a pencil being run down the spine of a notebook.

Smartphone owners have a wide variety of fun and interesting games to entertain them, but Asteroid Impacts isn’t one of them. The game is really bland and even on later levels doesn’t offer much of a challenge. The graphics are mediocre and while the music is entertaining the rest of the sound falls short.
