Hi everyone, I’m back with another excellent Urban Fantasy series for my latest Audiobook review. It’s time to enter the summerlands with Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire, Book 01 of the October Daye series!

Plot Synopsis: The world of Faerie never disappeared: it merely went into hiding, continuing to exist parallel to our own. Secrecy is the key to Faerie’s survival—but no secret can be kept forever, and when the fae and mortal worlds collide, changelings are born. Half-Human, Half-Fae, outsiders from birth, these second-class children of Faerie spend their lives fighting for the respect of their immortal relations. Or, in the case of October “Toby” Daye, rejecting it completely.

RoseRueINSIDEAfter getting burned by both sides of her heritage, Toby has denied the Fae world, retreating into a “normal” life. Unfortunately for her, Faerie has other ideas.

Plot: The plot is pretty good, and I really do enjoy this book. It’s a lot like a Dresden Files book but with a kickass female lead instead. There are lots of similarities between the series, and that’s not a bad thing as the Dresden Files are amazing.

Characters: Toby gives Harry Dresden a run for his money in the “My Life is a utter crap” category and that makes her a great lead in my opinion as her inner monologue is a perfect backdrop to the plot. The rest of the cast is great, with Luna being my favorite after Toby.

Voicework: Mary Robinette Kowal narrates the book and she does an amazing job with the series. She’s got the perfect snarky voice for Toby and it makes this book an absolute pleasure to listen to. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for her voicework in future series by Audible Studios and other publishers.

Overall: If you love mystery mixed with magic and mythology, you’ll love this book. A must listen.

For those who like: Action, Snarky and Kickass Female Leads, Amazing Plot, Mystery, Magic, Mythology, Great Cast of Characters, Excellent Voicework.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but how can you hate that?
