Hey all I’m back with an American take on the Light Novel! It’s Thanks Mom, Now It’s Just Another Club Volume 01 by Lon Mair. Martha Herondale is the Illustrator.
Plot Synopsis: Grant always possessed a fairly apathetic attitude and an aversion to socializing. He’d much rather laze around, basking in the glow of his laptop than converse with peers. Life stayed exactly the same as he coasted from day to day. Nothing ever differed in his boring existence. That is until ‘outside’ forces forced him to join a school club.
Now he’s forced to navigate through club meetings, participate in bothersome outings, manage friendships, and deal with blossoming romances. Can poor Grant cope with his newfound stress? Or will his snarky remarks and wit fail to save him from his fellow club members?
Plot: The plot is okay, nothing action oriented. I’d term this Slice of Life, for those who don’t know what I mean it’s just ordinary life interactions with little to no action at all. That being said it’s nothing really original either. I’m sure any person who has gone through High School will be able to relate to the story pretty easily. That is both the charm and the downside. A lot of people probably don’t want to remember High School as it was hell for them. Personally I had a blast, but that was due to my teachers rather than my peers. The romantic subplots were better than Twilight’s though, so it at least is better than that pile of refuse.

Characters: Grant is a decent lead, he goes through a decent amount of development throughout this short volume. His friends go through even more, although the female lead Claire seems to be left behind along with Grant in that department. The cast is okay, but nothing really original either. It’s just okay, not amazing nor terrible.
Art: The art is okay, it won’t be winning any awards any time soon, but it’s better than what I can create at least. Though that particular bar isn’t very high, as I fail at drawing stick figures.
Overall: This is an okay short story to read, but it’s nothing super special either. If you are looking to support upcoming authors you could find much better ones, but you can also find worse ones as well.
For those who like: Slice of Life, School Life, Drama, Romantic Sub-plots, Okay Plots, Decent Cast of Characters.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
