Browser-based gaming: Is there a future?

Some people seem to be cynical that browser-based gaming has a future, and that it is sure to become obsolete soon. However, there are some very compelling reasons as to why browser-based games are sure to be an entity in the years going forward. Today we will have a look at some of the reasons why browser-based games have a place in the market and why they are so well-loved.

One important reason why games that you can play on your browser remain very popular to this day is that they are cost effective to play. Not every individual has the disposable income to buy the latest and greatest gaming consoles, and each individual game that they wish to play. By eliminating the pricy consoles and the need to pay money for every game on offer, you are creating a more equal access to games, which are important in terms of leisure and relaxation, for those in lower income families and of lower socio-economic status.

The fact that you can access a browser-based game from a PC, laptop, tablet and even some smartphones means that people do not need to worry about what device they use. In the past, you could only play certain games on certain types of consoles. This has been the case with Nintendo. By allowing players the ability to play on whichever device they choose, you eliminate the need to have multiple consoles that are not only expensive, but take up a lot of space too. By being able to play on your iPad, you are able to use this device in a more versatile manner, which aids convenience.

For those who are new to gaming, browser-based games are very appealing because the learning curve is not so steep. When the new player is playing on a device which is already familiar to the individual, they can learn the game with greater speed and ease, and not have to worry about learning how to use controllers that are usually needed in console based games. This means that more people are likely to want to try out a browser-based games as it is much less intimidating that games played on traditional consoles, like a PlayStation or an Xbox.

There is one critique of browser-based gaming that perhaps has some legitimacy, although it comes from a personal perspective of some gamers. Many gamers say that the experience of gaming through a traditional console is simply better than the gaming experience you get from using browser-based games. This may be true in some ways, but at the end of the day it seems that it comes down to a matter of personal preference. But by the looks of things, browser-based games are only gaining popularity, and seem to be here to stay for the long haul!
