Hey all I’m back with another action flick for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s The Rock!

Plot: I’ll admit I didn’t remember this movie all that well, as when I read the summary online I was completely flummoxed because it wasn’t what I remembered. I thought this was a prison escape movie about Alcatraz, and that is loosely still the case. However that is really not the main point of the movie, it’s about rogue military assets taking over the island and deciding to hold people hostage there.  So I’ll probably want to rewatch this movie again if only because it’s the only “Fresh” rated  movie made by Michael Bay on Rotten Tomatoes. Or maybe not, considering it’s a Michael Bay film.

Casting: The cast is made up of some very big names, with Connery and Cage being two of the three leads, with Ed Harris as the antagonist Hummel.

Cinematography: It’s a Michael Bay film, and while it’s got the expected explosions it’s not overly done, or at least it’s not terrible compared to his later movies. So the special effects were pretty well done, especially considering that they had to film around tour groups.

Music: The music fits the movie perfectly and was nominated for Best Sound for the Academy Awards, which it didn’t win but still shows good promise.

Overall: I’ll probably need to rewatch this movie, but it’s a Michael Bay movie from the 90’s. So take everything you read here with a few grains of salt.

For those who like: Action, Drama, Explosions, Great Cast.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
