This week for Bookish Wednesday I’ve got a rather short book. It’s The Laboratory by Skyler Grant!

Plot Synopsis: Emma is an artificial intelligence with a love of science, insults, and devilish traps. When her systems are booted up she finds herself in control of a long-abandoned facility in a post-apocalyptic wasteland…

Plot: The plot is pretty great, it’s like if you took GLaDOS from Portal and made her even more ruthless and insulting. I can’t describe it any better than that, and frankly I think that does pretty well.

Characters: Emma is a great lead character, if only because she is so very snarky. Her constant barbs are hilarious and entertaining to the point where I had to avoid listening to the book early in the morning to avoid waking up others with my laughter. The rest of the cast is also quite good.

Overall: If you loved Portal, or just love snarky female leads that are also ruthless as hell, you’ll love The Laboratory.

For those who like: LitRPG, Post-Apocalyptic Setting, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Drama, Action, Snark, Fantastic Plot, Excellent Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but really how can you hate that?
