Humongous, Inc. (formerly Humongous Entertainment) announced today that a core management team that will focus on evolving the brands in order to meet the interests, trends, and play patterns of today's generation of kids. Humongous, a pioneer in interactive video games for children, was recently acquired by Infogrames Entertainment SA (Euronext – ISIN: FR-0000052573), the largest video games publisher in Europe, and parent company to Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR).
Leading the management team, Humongous announces the hiring of Alyssa Padia and Lauren Schechtman as co-presidents. With extensive backgrounds in youth entertainment, Padia and Schechtman will initially focus on the Backyard Sports series, the number-one interactive sports franchise for kids. Secondarily, Padia and Schechtman will develop a business strategy for reviving the Humongous Characters, a collection of award winning PC games that have been inactive for the past few years.
Backyard Sports is the only gaming brand to hold licenses with most major sports leagues: National Football League, NFL Players Inc., Major League Baseball, MLB Players Association, National Basketball Association, and National Hockey League. The franchise has sold more than eight million units and, according to an independent study, 15 percent of boys in the United States ages five to 10 own at least one Backyard Sports game.
Humongous Characters are individual age-appropriate collections of high-quality, animated CD-ROMs starring original characters including Putt-Putt, Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, and SPY Fox. Over 10 million units of these games have sold over the past decade.
"Particularly in the youth market, brands must continually evolve with the quickly changing wants, needs and hopes of the audience in order to be successful," Schechtman explains. "For Humongous, that means creating the right experience on the right platforms with partnerships and campaigns that are meaningful to kids and parents."
