Cash Offered For High Scores

Twin Galaxies’ Board of Referees have announced the continuance of an annual tradition: to offer cash bounties as prizes to gamers who can break world records on specific games titles, ranging from today’s Halo2 and Doom3, back to titles on the NES, Atari 2600, Colecovision, Intellivison and much more.

Walter Day, Chief Scorekeeper at Twin Galaxies says: "Robert Mruczek, Tom Votava, Adam Wood and Billy Mitchell — all members of Twin Galaxies’ Board — have offered to pay out of their own pockets more than $20,000 in cash prizes for world-record high-scores on some of the most challenging games in video game history."

Games from every era — from Atari to X-box — are included in the program, with, in a few cases, cash prizes as high $2,500 for a single accomplishment promised to the first player to reach a pre-designated goal.

"We believe in the future of competitive gaming," says Robert Mruczek, Twin Galaxies’ Chief Referee, "so the five of us — soon to include Kelly Flewin — are prepared to put up our own cash to inspire players to break long-standing world-records and win an entry in the forthcoming edition of Twin Galaxies’ Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records."

This tradition of offering cash bounties (prizes) was begun by Billy Mitchell in 1999 with a now-famous poster that offered more than $100,000 in rewards for high-scoring accomplishments. Later, Robert Mruczek continued this tradition with bounty offers in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
